Yamaha Planning For A 250cc Adventure Motorcycle Based On FZ25

Yamaha is reportedly working on a new 250cc adventure motorcycle for India, which will use the components like engine and frame of the FZ25.

Yamaha India has cleared that it will exit the commuter space from next year. It plans to launch more premium motorcycles that cost an upwards of Rs 1 Lakh or so. The two-wheeler maker has plans to bring many motorcycles to India gradually.

New reports reveal that Yamaha has plans for a small capacity adventure motorcycle in India. Seeing that this space is currently catching a lot of eyes and buyers are preferring sub-500cc ADVs, Yamaha also wants a share of it.

Turns out Yamaha FZ25 seems to be a good choice to develop the adventure motorcycle. The upcoming ADV will be based on FZ25 because its frame is easy to use for an ADV. The platform will undergo some minor revisions for that. Like, the suspension can be tweaked and the travel can be increased.

Also, the FZ25 is just 148 kgs and has a seat height of 800mm. Its simple 249cc engine offers generous amounts of low-end torque, which is perfect for any ADV. The engine produces 21 BHP and 20 Nm of peak torque.

However, reports also suggest that if Yamaha sees a good response from the other ADVs in its range, then only it will plan further. As of now, in this range, there is the Hero Xpulse 200 and the Royal Enfield Himalayan. KTM is going to launch the 390 Adventure and 250 Adventure soon.

If Yamaha plans to keep its price well under Rs 2 Lakhs on-road, it could be a real deal. The Xpulse is the most affordable one priced under a Lakh. The Himalayan is priced at Rs 1.85 Lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi). KTM might price the 390 Adventure just under Rs 3 Lakhs and the 250 Adventure around 2.2 Lakhs.
