Among all the 25,000 plus bookings done for the 2020 Mahindra Thar, nearly 44% of them have gone for the diesel automatic and petrol automatic variants.
The new 2020 Mahindra Thar has received an amazing response from the buyers as the booking amounts are soaring ahead. While the waiting period is also increasing side-by-side, it is soon expected to go down. In their latest press conference, officials have confirmed that the Thar automatic variants have received a nice response.
The bookings till date have crossed more than 25,000 units and among that, 44% of them opted for the automatic variants. The exact percentage of petrol automatic and diesel automatic variants is unknown, but we are expecting the latter to fetch more buyers. This figure is quite amazing as the SUV, for the first time, gets an automatic gearbox.

Nearly half of the buyers going for automatic variants also denotes that they bought it for lifestyle purposes. As per our dealership sources, the most popular is the diesel-manual combination. Automatic variants only come on the LX trims, which have the top-end variants loaded with all the bells and whistles.
2020 Mahindra Thar is offered with a 2.2 Litre mHawk turbo-diesel engine and a 2.0 Litre naturally aspirated petrol motor. The diesel engine is good for 130 BHP and 320 Nm of peak torque, while the petrol engine belts out 150 BHP and 320 Nm. Both come paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed torque converter unit.
Officials have also added that the waiting period will further reduce as the production is going to increase. The demand has definitely exceeded the supply and has crossed their expectations. By January, the production capacity will be increased by up to 3,000 to 3,500 units per month, which will subsequently bring down the current 7-8 months waiting period.
